Through the breath, the self-healing powers of the body are reactivated and emotional blockages resolved, negative mental programs lose their power and through a conscious breathing experience, a new life intensity is possible.

In these 5 days we will use the breath to open and connect two essential energy centers in the body: the hara and the heart.

The Japanese term Hara has two translations, belly and source of life.
In the western world, the abdomen is now also referred to as the ‘second brain’ because it shows immediate feelings and instinctive connection with life. Its energy center is four to five centimeters below the belly button and the central function is to balance our physical, spiritual and emotional state and ground us into our body.

It gives us a sense of who we are in the body. When we open the power of the hara in us through the breath, we connect into an inner attitude of power, strength, stillness and centering. We are rooted in the center of our life force, our inner center.

From here it is a natural step to direct this energy into the heart. The heart is the center of love, the love within: self-love and the love of others. There is so much distraction from who we are and how we can relate to the world and others.

To touch the center of the heart moves a strong energy of being connected authentically with oneself and with others. It brings us back home into a warmth and acceptance, without judgments trusting moment to moment.

Aikido, a Japanese martial art, is said to “strengthen your hara, then open your heart.” This will open our hearts and keep us in touch with our guts, helping us, among other things, to give our hearts an inner foothold to develop a sense of healthy boundaries and a deep connection at the same time.
